Religious Education

The Religious Education Program at St. James prepares our children and teens to both learn about the Catholic faith and to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. All students are instructed in the Gospel values of Jesus Christ with an emphasis on understanding what it truly means to live and worship as a Roman Catholic. It is the goal of the Religious Education process to awaken the faith of each student by facilitating a genuine discovery and understanding of the active presence of God in the life of the Church and World.

Classes, for 1st through 10th grade, run from September through April. Classes are offered on Wednesdays by a loving group of dedicated volunteers.

Sacramental preparation is done in accordance with the norms of the Diocese of La Crosse. Children requiring the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist generally prepare in the second grade. Students preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation generally prepare in the 10th grade. For older children wishing to receive the sacraments, the process is completed through the collaboration of the parents and Director of Religious Education.
